What is arb betting

Bet arbitrage, also called arb betting, is a strategy that exploits differences in odds offered by different bookmakers on the same event. By placing bets on every possible outcome in the right proportions, a bettor can lock in a small, risk-free profit no matter which result occurs.
The opportunity arises when the combined implied probabilities of the best available odds across bookmakers total less than 100%. For example, if one bookmaker offers high odds on Team A winning and another offers high odds on Team B (or a draw), the properly weighted stakes guarantee a return exceeding the total amount wagered.
Arbitrage requires quick identification of discrepancies, accurate stake calculation, and simultaneous placement of bets before odds change. While theoretically risk-free, practical challenges include account limitations by bookmakers, sudden odds movements, and the need for sufficient capital and multiple accounts. Automated tools and odds comparison sites help find these fleeting opportunities, but consistent success demands discipline and awareness of the market’s efficiency.
