What is Arbitrage Betting?

Arbitrage betting (also called arb betting or sure betting) is the practice of betting on all possible outcomes of a sporting event across different bookmakers to guarantee a profit no matter what happens on the pitch.

It works because bookmakers set their own odds independently. When two or more bookmakers disagree enough on a game's outcome, a gap opens up — and that gap is your profit window.

Simple example

A tennis match has two possible outcomes — Player A wins or Player B wins.
BookmakerA offers 2.10 on Player A.
BookmakerB offers 2.10 on Player B.

You bet ₦10,000 on each side — total stake ₦20,000.
Whichever player wins, you collect ₦21,000 — a guaranteed ₦1,000 profit.

This isn't gambling in the traditional sense. There is no luck involved — the profit is locked in the moment you place both bets. Betsnipper does the scanning work 24/7 and delivers ready-to-use opportunities to your dashboard.

02

The Math Explained

Every arb opportunity has an arb percentage — the guaranteed profit you earn on every ₦100 staked. Here's how it's calculated.

Optimal stake per outcome

Betsnipper calculates the exact amount to place on each outcome so that every result pays the same guaranteed return. The formula for each bet:

Stakei = (Guaranteed Return) ÷ Oddsi

You never have to do this manually — Betsnipper shows the exact naira amount for each bet.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1

Open your Betsnipper dashboard

Log in and go to the Dashboard (prematch) or Live tab. Opportunities are sorted from highest to lowest arb percentage. Focus on opportunities with at least 2–3% margin to comfortably cover transaction time.

2

Pick an opportunity

Each card shows: the match, market type (1X2, Over/Under, etc.), which bookmaker to bet each outcome at, the exact stake for each bet, and the guaranteed return. Tap any bookmaker name to open that bookmaker directly on the correct match.

3

Set your total stake

Enter how much you want to invest in total. Betsnipper recalculates the per-bet stakes instantly. A common starting point is ₦10,000–₦50,000 per opportunity while you learn.

4

Place bets quickly — one bookmaker at a time

Open bookmaker A, navigate to the match, confirm the odds match what Betsnipper shows, place bet A. Then immediately open bookmaker B and place bet B. Speed matters — odds can change within minutes.

5

Verify odds before confirming

Always check that the odds on the bookmaker's website match the odds shown on Betsnipper before confirming your bet slip. If the odds dropped and the arb margin is now 0% or negative, do not place the second bet.

6

Collect your winnings

After the match ends, one of your bets wins. Collect the payout. Your total return across all bets will be your guaranteed amount, regardless of the result.

04

Understanding the Markets

Betsnipper scans multiple market types. Here's what each one means.

1X2

Match Result

Three outcomes: Home win (1), Draw (X), Away win (2). Football only. You cover all three outcomes across different bookmakers.

Home/Away

Two-way Result

Used in tennis and basketball where draws don't exist. Only two outcomes — home player/team wins or away player/team wins.

Over/Under

Total Goals

Bet on whether the total goals scored will be over or under a set number (1.5, 2.5, 3.5). Two outcomes only.

Draw No Bet

DNB

Two outcomes: home team wins or away team wins. If the game is a draw, all stakes are refunded. Lower risk than 1X2.

BTTS

Both Teams to Score

Will both teams score at least one goal? Yes or No. Two outcomes only.

Double Chance

DC

Cover two outcomes in one bet: 1X (home or draw), X2 (draw or away), or 12 (home or away). Combined with another bookmaker's single outcome for the arb.

05

Bankroll & Stake Management

Your bankroll is the total amount of money you have spread across bookmaker accounts for arb betting. Managing it properly is the difference between steady growth and unnecessary losses.

Fund multiple accounts

Arbs involve 2–3 bookmakers per opportunity. Keep a working balance at each bookmaker (SportyBet, BetKing, NairaBet, 1win, BCGame, etc.) so you can act immediately without waiting for transfers.

Start small, scale up

Begin with ₦5,000–₦20,000 per arb while learning the flow. Once you're comfortable placing bets quickly and verifying odds, scale up to your full stake size.

Never stake money you can't afford

Even though arb betting is mathematically risk-free when executed correctly, mistakes happen — especially early on. Only use funds that won't affect your daily life if a mistake occurs.

Rebalance regularly

After an arb, one bookmaker wins and others hold your stake until the match ends. Withdraw and redistribute funds regularly so no single account is depleted.

Recommended starting bankroll

Spread ₦50,000–₦200,000 across 4–6 bookmaker accounts to comfortably execute most opportunities on Betsnipper. A 5% arb on ₦100,000 total stake = ₦5,000 guaranteed profit per opportunity.

Pro Tips & Best Practices

Act fast

Arb windows close within minutes — sometimes seconds. When you see a good opportunity, open both bookmaker tabs immediately and place bets without delay. Practise your routine until it becomes fast.

👀

Always verify odds at the bookmaker

Betsnipper refreshes regularly but odds can change between refreshes. Before confirming any bet slip, confirm the odds on the bookmaker website match what's shown. If they don't match, recalculate before placing.

📱

Use two devices or two browser tabs

Open Bookmaker A on one tab and Bookmaker B on another. This lets you switch instantly without navigating away. Mobile apps for bookmakers are often faster than the desktop site.

🏦

Keep accounts in good standing

Bookmakers may limit or ban accounts that consistently win from arbs. Bet naturally — place regular small bets occasionally, use welcome bonuses, and avoid placing only the exact arb stake amounts.

🎯

Focus on higher margin arbs

A 1% arb barely covers mistakes. Aim for 3%+ margins especially when starting out. Higher margins give you more room if one bookmaker's odds drop slightly before you place.

Live arbs require even faster execution

Live (in-play) odds move extremely fast. Only attempt live arbs once you're comfortable with prematch arbs and can place bets in under 30 seconds.

📊

Track every trade

Keep a simple spreadsheet: date, match, market, stake, profit/loss. This helps you see patterns, identify which bookmakers you use most, and calculate your true monthly return.

07

Mistakes to Avoid

Placing only one side of the arb

If you place the bet at Bookmaker A but the odds drop at Bookmaker B before you can place, you're no longer in an arb — you're just gambling. If you can't get both sides placed at acceptable odds, cancel the bet (use cash-out if available) or accept the single-sided bet as a normal punt.

Ignoring minimum and maximum bet limits

Bookmakers have stake limits. If your calculated stake is ₦45,000 but the bookmaker's maximum for that market is ₦20,000, the arb breaks down. Check limits before committing.

Confusing Home/Away in live matches

Some bookmakers swap home and away team positions in their live interface. Always double-check you're betting on the correct team/player, not just the outcome position on the page.

Betting before a match kicks off without checking the lineup

Football arbs placed before a match can be affected by late team news (key player injured, etc.) that dramatically shifts odds. Be aware of match time and news.

Withdrawing winnings during a running arb

Don't withdraw from a bookmaker while you still have a pending bet covering one side of an arb. Wait for all bets to settle first.

Chasing a disappearing arb

Once an arb margin drops to 0% or negative, it's gone. Don't try to place it anyway hoping odds will recover. Move on to the next opportunity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Arbitrage betting is completely legal. You are simply placing bets at different licensed bookmakers, which is allowed. All bookmakers on Betsnipper are legally licensed and operating in Nigeria.

When executed correctly — both sides placed at the quoted odds — you cannot lose. The only risk is human error: placing only one side, misreading the odds, or the odds changing before you complete the second bet.

You can start with as little as ₦10,000 spread across two bookmaker accounts. However, for meaningful returns, a starting bankroll of ₦50,000–₦200,000 spread across 4–6 bookmakers is recommended.

Betsnipper typically finds 5–30 opportunities per day depending on the number of football and tennis matches being played. Major football weekends (Friday–Sunday) produce the most opportunities.

Bookmakers dislike consistent arb bettors and may limit your maximum stake or restrict your account over time. To reduce this risk: place normal bets occasionally, avoid betting only the exact arb amounts, and spread your activity across many bookmakers rather than hammering one or two.

Any positive percentage is technically profitable, but aim for at least 2–3% to make it worthwhile after accounting for speed risk and bookmaker limits. Anything above 5% is considered excellent.

You only need accounts at the specific bookmakers shown for each opportunity. Start by registering at the most common ones on Betsnipper: SportyBet, BetKing, NairaBet, BCGame, 1win, and Betway. This covers the majority of opportunities.

If a bookmaker voids a bet (e.g., due to a rule change or technical issue), you'll only have one side of the arb active. This puts you in a normal gambling position. This is rare but possible — it's one reason to avoid betting your entire bankroll on a single arb.
